# Environment releases (beta)

An environment release [progressively](https://launchdarkly.com/docs/home/releases/progressive-rollouts#progressive-rollouts) rolls out a new flag variation in one environment. On select plans, you can [guard](https://launchdarkly.com/docs/home/releases/guarded-rollouts) one or more metrics, monitoring them for regressions. Use the environment releases API to list releases, get a release, start a release, or stop an active release.
