# Flag templates

This topic explains the different types of flags available in LaunchDarkly. Flag templates are project-wide default settings for different types of flags.

> **Modifying flag templates requires specific permissions**

> You can only modify flag templates if you have a role that allows the `updateProjectFlagDefaults` action. The LaunchDarkly Project Admin and Maintainer roles, as well as the Admin and Owner base roles, have this ability.
