EMEA Fireside Chat with Dave Farley

On 4 October 22, Dave Farley joined LaunchDarkly CTO and Co-Founder, John Kodumal, to share all about his new book, his thoughts on latest engineering and organization philosophies, and how leaders can improve their devs' mindsets—and code quality. During this talk, Dave addressed some of the biggest challenges facing modern developers and business leaders and explored the main pillar of his book, Modern Software Engineering:

Becoming an expert in learning

Focusing on how we need to work iteratively and incrementally, learning from fast feedback loops as we go. We'll also discuss how successful implementation of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices requires thoughtful experimentation.

Understanding and managing complexity

Exploring how software engineering requires the management of often overlapping or conflicting problems. We'll talk about modularity, cohesion, separation of concerns, abstraction and loose coupling.

Tactics to achieve expertise in these areas

How the two areas above work in the context of product development, looking at testability, deployability, speed, safety and continuous delivery.
