Ditch the manual release checklist. With Workflow Templates, you can build a consistent release process in LaunchDarkly that can be reused across all your teams and features.
In 2022, feature flagging is fundamental to DevOps culture. As teams build faster than ever, it has become easier for release managers and product leads to control when and how to ship feature flags to their end-users. Yet, for teams that strive for operational maturity, establishing a rollout strategy across an organization can be disjointed and inconsistent, so we’ve brought that checklist to life directly within LaunchDarkly.Â
With the launch of Workflow Templates, you can define what progressive delivery means for your organization and ensure your rollout steps are followed predictably across teams.Â
With the release of Workflows in February, LaunchDarkly introduced the ability for you to configure and automate a multistep rollout process on a per flag basis. With the addition of templates, you can now, easier than ever, scale your Workflows across hundreds of flags across environments and projects.
With today’s launch, you can save Workflows as a template to be re-used across flags in any environment or project. This means that your standard process can be built into LaunchDarkly, and your release checklist doesn’t need a browser bookmark anymore. Release managers can build the scaffold of their release process, and it can be easily used by anyone on any flag.
To get started, create a custom workflow from the Workflow Builder. Then at the top of the page, you can save it as a template.
The next time you want to roll out a feature flag, your previously saved workflow templates will appear as an option to quickly apply and move on. Templates will help your organization scale best practices, ship with velocity, and build a foundation for operational maturity.
Once you choose a template, you’ll be guided to fill out pertinent information required for your feature flag and environment. Workflow Templates lay the groundwork for your teammates to easily manage canary releases, progressive rollouts, or scheduling for major launches. Whether your organization’s launch strategy is green or seasoned, this is a perfect way to integrate the process into practice.
Workflow Templates are available for all customers on the Enterprise plan. To get started, go to any feature flag, and start creating a workflow on the Workflows tab. Have any best practices that have helped your teams? We’d love to feature you in an upcoming post. Please shoot us an email at feedback@launchdarkly.com.Â
