LaunchDarkly Joins EU-US Data Privacy Framework featured image

To our valued customers, we are delighted to share that LaunchDarkly is expanding the data privacy compliance option offered to our customers. LaunchDarkly is now an active participant in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF), the DPF UK extension, and the Swiss-US DPF. This strategic move underscores our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the personal data you may choose to share with LaunchDarkly when using our service.

The DPF is designed to uphold stringent data protection standards, ensuring the secure transfer and handling of personal data between the European Union (EU) and the United States (US). By certifying with this framework, we reinforce our dedication to securing the data you share with us, and offer you additional options when choosing how you decide to comply with data privacy laws.

Background

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) sets requirements for the processing of EU citizen’s personal data. This includes the mechanism used to securely transfer personal data between the EU and other regions, it needs to be protected to the same high standards as it would be in the EU. The new EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework provides an additional option for safe data flows for Europeans and bring legal certainty to companies on both sides of the Atlantic.

In the past, we relied on mechanisms like Privacy Shield for EU-US data transfers. However, changes to data privacy laws have prompted a shift towards other methods, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), to ensure compliance with GDPR requirements. With our participation in the DPF Program, LaunchDarkly is giving EU companies even more options to transfer personal data to the US in compliance with GDPR and builds on the mechanisms that previously existed under Privacy Shield. The European Commission concluded its adequacy decision, affirming that the DPF offers sufficient protection for data transfers from the EU to the US.

What this means for our customers?

Embracing the DPF means empowering our customers with enhanced options for, and continued compliance with, privacy regulations. By proactively self-certifying under key DPF agreements like the EU-US DPF, the supplementary Swiss-US DPF, and the UK extension, we demonstrate our commitment to data protection and international data transfers.

Our Data Processing Addendum is developed to encompass the requirements of the DPF and other widely accepted mechanisms such as the SCCs. This means that our customers can rest assured that their data transfers meet the highest standards of privacy and security.
