Scaling LaunchDarkly to Teams of Teams featured image

Earlier this year, we released teams to all Enterprise customers, which enables account admins to better organize and manage their organization’s use of LaunchDarkly. Since then, we've continued to focus on the needs of teams at scale, supporting large organizations with thousands of members and hundreds of projects.

Team assignment and ownership throughout LaunchDarkly

We’re adding new ways for you to complete tasks within your LaunchDarkly account with the team in mind.

Teams as approvers

Customers use Flag Approvals in LaunchDarkly to deliver software faster while aligning with change management protocols. Before, we allowed you to request flag change reviews from specific members of your team. But now, you can submit a request to your entire team, thus widening the pool of potential reviewers. Get the right people to review your flag changes in less time and with fewer errors!

Invite and assign members to teams

We recently introduced the ability to assign members to a team when inviting them to your LaunchDarkly account, providing a one-step process for admins to grant the right level of access to team members out of the gate.

Teams as flag maintainers

We recognize the importance of designated flag maintainers for accountability and flag health. In addition to individual members assigned as flag maintainers, we also support the ability to assign entire teams as flag maintainers. This offers the additional benefit of shared accountability and also ensures that when one member leaves the team, the flag still has other owners.

Scalable team management

Our customers build their products with efficiency and scalability at the forefront. Team management should be no different. We’ve leveled up our teams integrations and in-app admin experience accordingly.

Teams in Terraform

We’ve updated our Terraform Provider to include the team as a resource, so you can manage your LaunchDarkly team members, their roles, team maintainers, and team metadata directly from Terraform.

Team sync with SCIM for Okta

Enterprise customers using our SCIM integration with Okta can now automatically sync groups defined in Okta with teams in their LaunchDarkly account. This not only makes team provisioning easier, but also allows you to benefit from real-time updates that SCIM offers, including automatic team deprovisioning.

Team assignment with SAML

Enterprise customers can now assign users or groups defined in their Identity Provider to teams in LaunchDarkly by passing a new custom attribute (teamKey) as part of the SAML assertion. Similar to our ‘team sync with SCIM’ offering, this automates the process of adding members to teams by integrating with your IdP of choice, but does not require the use of SCIM.

Bulk editing team members and member roles

Admins on Enterprise accounts can now edit multiple account members at a time by adding the members to teams or replacing their member roles. This will make it faster and easier to start building teams in your LaunchDarkly account!

More to come…

We’re not done yet! LaunchDarkly recognizes the team effort required to deliver great software. We're committed to continuing to advance team-based functionality in LaunchDarkly to support the needs of your growing teams. You can expect to see teams surfaced more and more in relevant areas of the platform, including team notifications and customized views for teams. In addition, we plan to continue investing in making account management and team administration easier and more scalable for large organizations with complex needs.
