5 Reasons to Attend the Software Release Summit featured image

Deployments are placed towards the end of the Software Development Life Cycle, but they're truly always top of mind at LaunchDarkly.

See for yourself at our upcoming Software Release Summit—happening May 18 beginning at 9 a.m. PST—where we'll get into discussions on the state of software releases, tips for expanding your use cases for LaunchDarkly, and how our customers are building better software.

What you might not know is that we can help you out with so much more than just your releases. The Software Release Summit kicks off a new series of live events focused on the various ways you can utilize LaunchDarkly to improve the quality of your software (and life). Stay tuned for separate, standalone summits this year focused on Technology Migrations, Targeted Experiences, A/B Tests and Experimentation, and Mobile App Control.

First though, let's talk about the five reasons you should attend our Software Release Summit.

1. Get an edge on the state of software releases

If you're curious about where your team sits within the greater landscape of software releases and performance, you'll want to eavesdrop on this conversation.

Leading the discussion will be LaunchDarkly co-founder and CTO, John Kodumal. Joining him will be Honeycomb's Field CTO and all-around industry expert, Liz Fong-Jones

If you're not familiar with Liz, she's a true leader in our space: developer advocate, labor and ethics organizer, and Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with nearly 20 years of experience. She's very close to both the waves and ripples that come coursing through the developer community on any given day, and will provide strong insights into the current state of play as we approach the halfway point of 2023.

Together, Liz and John will discuss the latest trends and best practices around releasing software, and share perspectives on what drives high-performing teams. You'll also learn how to set developers up for success and hear some secrets to safe releases. We're also told there will be thoughts on speculative use cases for AI, adjusting to a remote-first workforce, and what to watch in the months ahead. Not a session to skip.

2. Learn what it means to release fearlessly

Software errors can cost a business millions of dollars per year. To reduce this risk, many teams rely on stressful, process-heavy release cycles that slow innovation. With feature management, companies can empower their development teams to move faster without fear

In this roundtable discussion, you'll hear from two of our customers—Aaron Kerwin, Director of Software Engineering at Datasite, and Krista Sappington VP, IT Application Manager, at BOK Financial—about how they're managing releases now with LaunchDarkly.

Expect the conversation to touch on topics like using feature flags as a safety net, streamlining releases, and scaling best practices across the organization.

3. Hear an AWS perspective on continuous deployment, progressive delivery, and experimentation

Continuous deployment and experimentation allow organizations to de-risk deployments, test new features confidently, recover quickly from incidents, and accelerate release cycles.

In this 30-minute session, Dr. James Bland, Principal Partner Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services, will show you how large enterprises manage releases at a massive scale. In particular, you'll get expert insight into deployment strategies like progressive delivery that reduce risk, learn how automated rollbacks make incident recovery faster, and gain an understanding of risk mitigation at scale with large batch sizes.

4. Get a refresher on shipping and releasing with LaunchDarkly

Whether you're a LaunchDarkly customer or not, you'll get some value in brushing up on the capabilities of what our platform can do for you and your team. In our session, "Ship & Release Product Walkthrough," we'll bring to life concepts like “test in production”, “control your blast radius,” and “instant rollbacks” by showing you how it all comes together. And you’ll gain an understanding of what first steps your teams can take to ship often and release faster, without compromising safety.

5. Ask our director of developer relations anything

Look, this session is probably going to fly under the radar, but hear us out. You've got 10 minutes to ask Cody De Arkland, Director, Developer Relations at LaunchDarkly, whatever is on your mind. And we really want to put that "anything" to the test here. Could your questions revolve around software releases? Absolutely. Could they also touch on Cody's love of grilling, Star Wars, or country music? Yes and yes. We're literally handing the mic over to you, so let your questions rip and don't be shy.

Hopefully you're in. If so, let us know by saving your spot now
