The Journey with LaunchDarkly at One Medical

Ben Yee One Medical

Over the years, One Medical's service ecosystem and product development organization has continued to grow and mature. We found ourselves increasingly in need of a better, more broadly usable feature flagging solution to control feature deployment, increase release safety, and product reliability.

We needed a service that can coordinate flags across multiple services and environments without onerous copying of flags between environments, be auditable, PII/PHI-safe, reliable, and performant.  Additionally, support for experimentation in conjunction with feature flagging is critical for our team to move quickly and make informed decisions.

LaunchDarkly was chosen as the solution to this organizational problem/need. With this service we are able to create user property based rules to allow for targeting in a highly customizable way across all of our microservices and applications, in a compliant, easily manageable, and reliable way, including being able to incorporate experimentation as needed.
